NYFW: LULU FROST

Amongst a wave of RTW previews and parties, Lulu Frost stood out with its sparkling jewelry presentation of the FW16 collection, Frequency, held at the Highline Loft yesterday morning. Inspired by the vastness of outer space and the expansive power of human thought, designer Lisa Salzer references a trio of eras - victorian, deco, the 1960's - in her luxurious geometric, starry silhouettes. Grand takeaways? Crowns are in; Your earrings should be asymmetrical (one long and tassley, the other short and bold); And tights need rocks, particularly in the form of swirling sapphire, opal, and labradorite gems.

Check out some of the best looks below>>

CITY SOUNDS: MISS VELVET

So often I dream of living in NYC during the '60s or '70s, before the days of digital presences, when, in order to absorb the city's culture-scene, you actually had to be present. Discovery of artists and musicians was left to chance exposure -- impromptu shows and unpredictable encounters... in real life.

Well, The Gramercy Park Hotel took note of this void and is here to entertain all of our bohemian fantasies with the resurgence of its artist residency series. Having hosted a wave of well-known musicians including Liza Minelli, Rufus Wainwright, and even Guns N' Roses, the hotel is now opening its stage to a new set of emerging artists.

Enter: Miss Velvet

Selected by The Gramercy Park Hotel for a two-month performance residency in anticipation of her debut album, Dreams Are Not For Us, you're probably wondering who is this mysterious songstress? Well, a better question would be who is she not? A lithe figure with cascading blonde hair and intensely dreamy vocals, it's hard to not relate Miss Velvet to the legendary icons who've also captivated us with their movement. Even I was referential the first time I wrote about her, feeling "the sensual romance of Lana del Rey and the vocal soul of Jim Morrison" within this dynamic musician. Add the intensity of Janis Joplin, the softness of Etta James, and the performance swagger of Mick Jagger and then you have it -- the eclectic persona that is Miss Velvet.

Until her album drops and we have more rad stuff to share about this on-the-rise performer, stop by and see Miss Velvet at The Gramercy Park Hotel to get a taste of classic NYC and feel the music (upcoming shows: February 10th, February 24th at 2 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY).

NYC is a sea of Zara coats and Rebecca Minkoff bags and the only way to not drown in it is to have a keen eye for bomb, cult labels that are also affordable. And what's the fun in keeping it all hush-hush? Not one to keep secrets, I'm taking these Fire Finds off the DL.

WHO: Issy Salomon

WHAT: Colorful, funky jewelry ranging from $30-$120

WHERE: The Market NYC, 159 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012

WANNA PLAY?

Whether it’s the sport of soccer itself, the players, or the studs in their postgame suits, there are a few reasons they call the world’s most beloved brand of football “the beautiful game.” And doesn’t it feel like year after year we see a few more games on TV and a few more footballers on the covers of our magazines? Well some city kids caught on to that trend, too.

Introducing 10s FC, an underground football club that launched its monthly newsletter last week. Embodying the spirit of the number 10 shirt, reserved for the playmaker of the team, 10s FC is a club for those who make shit happen. Each month a newsletter goes out covering style, culture, and politics—inspired by a legendary number 10 and his life off the field.

And oh yeah, they're making products, too, like this 10s FC "PELE" crew sweatshirt. It’s the perfect thing to buy your boyfriend so that you can steal it from him. Want one? They're limited edition so you better hustle.

Want to know more about 10s? Rumor has it they have a few more things in the works, so head over to 10s FC and sign up.
